The 24th Media Award HIV/AIDS 2021/22

As a newly appointed Member of the Board of Trustees of the German AIDS Foundation, Patrick Mölleken served as moderator and presenter at the award ceremony of the 24th HIV/AIDS Media Award 2021/22. It was presented as part of the 11th German-Austrian AIDS Congress 2023, as is customary.

An extraordinary evening at the World Conference Center Bonn with impressive award winners, whom we would like to congratulate once again here:

1.) Ole Siebrecht (Author) & Matthias Kapohl (Director) for the radio feature »Michaels erstes Jahr mit dem Virus« (»Michael’s First Year with the Virus«), WDR 5, Dok 5 – Das Feature / Deutschlandfunk Kultur, December 5, 2021 / November 30, 2021.

2.) Gabriela Herpell & Lars Reichardt for their contribution to »Wir alle hatten Angst« (»We were all afraid«), published in the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin (23/2021), June 11, 2021.

3.) Axel Schock for his decades-long, continuous and knowledgeable reporting on HIV/AIDS, especially as a freelance author for the http://magazin.hiv of the Deutsche Aidshilfe (German AIDS Service Organization).

4.) An undistinguished special award goes to the entire team of the 5-part TV series »It’s A Sin« (created & written by Russell T Davies, directed by Peter Hoar, produced by Phil Collinson, aired on Channel 4), German premiere on January 22, 2021 on LIONSGATE+ Germany – received by Sonja Claus (Splendid Sychron).

5.) The jury also recommended the book »Kahlschlag AIDS – Macht und Ohnmacht einer Bewährungsprobe« by Christian Noak and Ernst M. Häussinger, published by Books on Demand in 2021.

The prize money of a total of 15,000 euros was provided by the sponsor vfa – Verband forschender Pharma-Unternehmen (Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies) in the presence of President Han Steutel. The award by the German AIDS Foundation is the only media award on the topic of HIV/AIDS in the German-speaking region. It has been given for 36 years.
An independent jury of medical professionals, journalists, and AIDS activists selects the award winners. Since 1987, the German AIDS Foundation has awarded 87 media professionals from print, radio, TV and online media, as well as artists.

At this point, Patrick Mölleken would also like to personally thank the German AIDS Foundation and the fantastic team around the chairwoman Dr. Kristel Degener: For the trust and the friendly connection that has steadily grown over the years.
Many thanks also go to the Congress Presidents Prof. Dr. med. Clara Lehmann, Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Rockstroh and the Scientific Secretary Dr. med. Christoph Boesecke for supporting the award ceremony.
